“There are two ways to reach the top of an oak tree—you can climb it or you can sit on an acorn and wait.” – Zig Ziglar
In my last few blogs i explained why dreaming is important and why we shouldn’t let our fears and doubt get in the way of us realising our dreams. I also reblogged a brilliant post by my friend Colas that explains why most of us are making excuses.
So now that you know all of this – what’s left? You need to put in the work.
No one will climb that mountain for you, no one will write that book for you. It’s up to you alone to start taking action. Having dreams without taking action won’t get you anywhere. Two main obstacles that you will face along the way are:
- ‘I don’t know where or how to start’ – That’s perfectly fine, you will figure out a plan as you go along. The biggest accomplishments in life began with the decision to start. Whatever it is you are trying to achieve, include it in your daily habits. Read about it, write about it, watch videos about it and go and do it. Do something every day that will bring you closer to your goals and watch how beautifully things start falling into place.
“You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step” – Martin Luther King Jr
- ‘I’m not ready yet’ – You will never be 100% ready to do something or if you wait til you are, the opportunity will probably be long gone. It is by taking action and learning/experimenting with new stuff that you grow as an individual. You need to force yourself out of that comfort zone because your mind has already set false limitations on what you think you can or cannot achieve – however once you decide to get out of that comfort cushion, you will notice how those barriers are easily broken and how you are able to achieve whatever you set your mind to.
Don’t wait til you’re retired to start working on your dreams, the moment is now. Now is the only time that you have control over, so make the best out of it.
I’m not saying that it will be easy – nothing worth having is easy. You need to be prepared to sacrifice some things in your life and put in the time and sweat to reach your dreams – because we all ultimately reap what we sow. Therefore what you do today, is what you will receive in 5 years! Do a little bit today that will brighten your future!
As always, I encourage you to share this post with people who need a reminder to start working on their dreams.
“Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty… I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life. I have envied a great many people who led difficult lives and led them well.” – Theodore Roosevelt
Bonus: I’d like to introduce you to Gary Vaynerchuk. His work ethic is incredible so for any of you that are starting now or those who don’t know him yet, this guy offers great advice. Check out his youtube channel and leave in the comments below anything that stood out or anything useful that you learnt from him!
